Mauvezin

Mauvezin is a small bastide town in the Gers department, in the Occitanie region, nestled among the rolling hills of Gascony between Auch and Toulouse. Founded in the Middle Ages according to the typical layout of south-western French bastides, it retains a central arcaded square and an old covered market hall, remnants of its history as a rural trading town. The town is arranged around quiet lanes and half-timbered houses, offering an authentic, peaceful atmosphere well away from the tourist crowds. The surrounding countryside, with its gentle valleys, farmland and small woods, is well suited to walking, cycling and exploring the rural heritage of the Gers. The region is well known for its gastronomy, with foie gras, duck breast, Armagnac and Côtes de Gascogne wines among the local specialities found at markets and farmhouse inns. The mild, sunny climate for much of the year encourages outdoor pursuits. Mauvezin makes a peaceful base for exploring the Gers, its neighbouring bastide towns, hilltop villages and the classic rolling landscapes of south-western France, off the main tourist routes yet within easy reach of Toulouse.
