Pfaffenheim

Pfaffenheim is a wine-growing village in the Haut-Rhin department, situated along the Alsace Wine Route between Rouffach and Colmar, at the foot of the region's vine-covered hillsides. The village is particularly known for the Zinnkoepflé, a designated grand cru vineyard site renowned for its Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris. The local wine cooperative, established in the mid-20th century, brings together several area winegrowers and offers tastings and tours showcasing wines produced on the communal terroir. The village retains a typically Alsatian character, with half-timbered houses and a parish church. The surrounding countryside, set between the Rhine plain and the first foothills of the Vosges mountains, is well suited to walking through the vineyards, offering views over the Alsace plain and, on clear days, towards the Black Forest. Nearby villages such as Eguisheim, Rouffach and Colmar, all within easy reach, add further architectural heritage and local markets to the area's appeal. Pfaffenheim therefore makes a quiet base from which to explore the Alsace vineyards and their winemaking traditions.
