Cornus

Cornus is a small village in the southern Aveyron, set on the Causse du Larzac within the Grands Causses Regional Nature Park. This limestone plateau, shaped by karst landscapes, wide rocky expanses and the sparse vegetation typical of the causses, appeals to those seeking unspoilt countryside and walking opportunities. The village lies close to notable sites on the Larzac plateau, including remains linked to the Templar and Hospitaller history that mark the area, as well as gorges and valleys well suited to hiking or mountain biking. The climate is broadly Mediterranean with mountain influences, bringing dry, warm summers and harsher winters than elsewhere in the department. Local gastronomy showcases Aveyron produce, notably Roquefort cheese, whose maturing cellars lie just a few kilometres away, along with lamb and sheep's milk cheeses. Cornus offers a quiet base from which to explore the Larzac, its windswept plateaux, traditional causse farmsteads and authentic rural heritage, well away from tourist crowds, in a peaceful and unspoilt countryside setting.
