Peyreleau

Peyreleau is a village in the Aveyron department, in southern France, at the confluence of the Jonte and Tarn rivers, at the foot of the Tarn Gorges and facing Le Rozier on the opposite bank. The village rises along a rocky spur, with old stone houses, narrow, steep lanes, and the remains of a medieval castle overlooking the surroundings. This location makes it a popular base for exploring the Tarn Gorges and Jonte Gorges, known for their limestone cliffs, hiking, climbing, canoeing and kayaking, and vulture watching, notably from the nearby Belvédère des Vautours viewpoint. The Causse Noir and Causse Méjean, karst plateaus typical of the Grands Causses, lie just a few kilometres away and showcase landscapes characteristic of the Grands Causses Regional Nature Park. Local gastronomy highlights Aveyron specialities such as aligot, Roquefort cheese and cured meats. The climate, semi-continental with Mediterranean influences, brings warm summers well suited to outdoor activities and cooler winters typical of the Causses' upland terrain.
