Panzano

Panzano, more precisely Panzano in Chianti, is a hamlet within the municipality of Greve in Chianti, in the province of Florence, Tuscany. The village is well known for its position at the heart of the Conca d'Oro, a natural amphitheatre of hills entirely devoted to viticulture, producing some of the region's most celebrated Chianti Classico wines. The historic centre, set on a hilltop, retains a medieval layout with narrow lanes and views over the surrounding vineyards. Panzano is also recognised for its butchery tradition, home to a renowned historic macelleria famous for preparing bistecca alla fiorentina and other Tuscan meat specialities. Nearby, several Romanesque pievi can be found, including the Pieve di San Leolino, reflecting the area's religious history. The surrounding countryside is well suited to walking or cycling among vineyards and olive groves, as well as visiting wine estates that offer tastings and direct sales. The mild Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and gentle winters, supports food and wine tourism for much of the year.
