St-Amans-des-Cots

St-Amans-des-Cots is a village in the northern Aveyron department, in the Occitanie region, on the edge of the Aubrac plateau, at an altitude of around 730 metres. It is best known for the Lac de la Selves, an artificial reservoir developed for swimming and water-based leisure activities, with a supervised beach, pedal-boat hire and fishing spots. The village retains a rural, mountainous character, surrounded by pastureland, forests and the volcanic landscape typical of the Aubrac area. The surrounding countryside offers walking routes linked to the Aubrac plateau, renowned for its open scenery and its Aubrac cattle breed. Local gastronomy features regional specialities such as aligot, tripoux and Laguiole cheese, widely available in nearby shops and restaurants. The climate is marked by cold winters and mild summers, typical of mid-mountain regions.
