Sorkwity

Sorkwity is a village in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, within Mrągowo County, at the heart of Poland's Masurian Lake District. It lies on the shore of Lake Lampackie, amid a landscape typical of this north-eastern region, characterised by forests, lakes and gentle moraine hills. The village is best known for its 19th-century neo-Gothic palace, once the residence of the von Mirbach family, set within a landscaped park running down to the lake. A local church also survives, reflecting the area's Prussian-era heritage. Sorkwity serves as a pleasant stop along cycling and walking routes through Masuria, including the Green Velo trail, drawing visitors keen on nature, sailing and hiking. The surrounding area offers water-based activities such as canoeing, sailing and fishing, along with horse riding in the nearby countryside. The climate is continental, with mild summers well suited to lakeside tourism and colder winters. Sorkwity remains a low-key destination, valued more for its unspoilt natural setting than for any large-scale tourist infrastructure.
