Carovigno

Carovigno is a village in Puglia, in the province of Brindisi, just a few kilometres from the Adriatic coast and the whitewashed town of Ostuni. Listed among Italy's most beautiful villages, its historic centre retains a medieval layout of narrow lanes and lime-washed façades, overlooked by an Aragonese castle originally built by the Normans and later remodelled over the centuries. Close to the village lies the Torre Guaceto nature reserve, a protected area combining wetlands, dunes and fine sandy beaches, popular for swimming, walking and observing coastal wildlife. The surrounding countryside, planted with centuries-old olive groves, reflects the long-standing importance of olive oil production to the local economy. Regional cuisine, built around fresh pasta, vegetables and seafood, can be sampled in the trattorias of the old town. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, makes outdoor activities possible for much of the year. Carovigno serves as a convenient base for exploring the Salento peninsula and northern Puglia, offering a mix of architectural heritage, protected nature and unspoilt coastline.
