Vemdalen

Vemdalen is a mountain village in Härjedalen, in Jämtland County in north-central Sweden. The settlement is best known as a gateway to the Vemdalsskalet and Björnrike ski resorts, which draw winter visitors for reliable snow conditions from November to April, offering alpine skiing, cross-country trails and snowmobiling. The village retains a traditional character, with timber houses typical of the region and an old wooden church dating back to the 17th century, valued for its well-preserved painted interior. In summer, the surrounding area becomes a hub for hiking and mountain biking, with access to the wide-open wilderness of Härjedalen, ideal for fishing and spotting native Scandinavian wildlife, including the reindeer that graze in nearby pastures. The cold continental climate brings clearly defined seasons, with long, harsh winters. Vemdalen serves as a convenient base for exploring the surrounding mountains, combining winter sports with summer nature tourism, all within a rural setting characteristic of central Sweden.
