Clohars-Carnoet

Clohars-Carnoët is a commune in Finistère, southern Brittany, situated at the mouth of the Laïta river, which marks the boundary between Morbihan and Finistère. The area includes several notable spots, such as the picturesque fishing harbour of Doëlan, with its colourful houses and twin lighthouses flanking the channel, and the seaside resort of Le Pouldu, known for its sandy beaches and unspoilt coastal setting. The painter Paul Gauguin stayed here in the late 19th century, giving the town a historical connection to the post-impressionist movement. The Carnoët state forest, criss-crossed by walking trails, runs along the banks of the Laïta and offers a pleasant setting for walks or cycling. The GR34 coastal path allows visitors to explore the surrounding coves and cliffs. The commune enjoys a temperate oceanic climate, with mild summers and generally gentle winters.
