Le Havre

Le Havre, a port city in Seine-Maritime rebuilt after the Second World War by Auguste Perret, is UNESCO-listed for the distinctive concrete architecture of its town centre. The Perret show flat offers a glimpse into the interior design typical of this reconstruction. The city is centred around its major port and pebble beach, lined with colourful beach huts dotted along the seafront. A market brings the area to life on Sunday mornings. Those keen on water sports can try canoeing or paddleboarding, with equipment provided, to explore the bay from the water. The bar-restaurant Les Pieds dans l'Eau, right on the beach, serves a varied menu with sea views, whether you're facing the shore or the town. To unwind, Les Bains des Docks offer a spa complex, while the Docks Vauban shopping centre brings together shops and brands within a repurposed industrial setting. On the cultural side, the MUMA houses modern art collections, the Natural History Museum adds further depth, and Le Volcan, a performance venue designed by Niemeyer, stands out in the cityscape. Less than an hour away by bus, the cliffs of Étretat make for an essential day trip from Le Havre.
