Prague

Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is built around the Vltava River and its rich architectural heritage. Prague Castle, with its royal gardens and St Vitus Cathedral, overlooks the city from the heights of Hradčany, while the quieter Malá Strana district is ideal for a leisurely stroll. Charles Bridge links these banks to the Old Town, home to the Astronomical Clock, St Nicholas Church and, further on, the Dancing House and the Franz Kafka head sculpture. Climbing the Old Town Bridge Tower offers a fine view over the surrounding rooftops and spires, while a guided cruise along the Vltava provides a different perspective on the city. Culture lovers can visit the Mucha Museum or the Museum of Illusions, both located in the historic centre. For a bite to eat, the restaurant at the foot of Žižkov Tower offers excellent value for money, a welcome stop after a day of sightseeing. Finally, no visit to Prague is complete without trying a trdelník, the sweet pastry sold throughout the Old Town and something of a local speciality.
