Roma - Colosseo, Fori Imperiali

The Colosseum and Imperial Forums district forms the monumental heart of Rome, right in the historic centre. The Colosseum, the city's most iconic ancient amphitheatre, dominates the area alongside the remains of the Imperial Forums, which stretch along Via dei Fori Imperiali, offering an open-air view of Roman ruins. From here, it's easy to reach the capital's main tourist sites on foot or by public transport, including the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and, further afield, Vatican City with its museums and St Peter's Basilica. The surrounding cobbled streets are lined with trattorias, cafés and shops typical of Rome's historic centre. The area is well served by several metro and bus lines, making it easy to reach other iconic districts such as Trastevere or Piazza Navona. Rome's Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, makes it a year-round destination, though tourist numbers are notably higher in spring and summer. It's an ideal base for exploring the city's ancient and Renaissance heritage on foot.
