Saint-Denis, in the Seine-Saint-Denis department, lies around ten kilometres north of Paris and is easily reached via the RER D line and metro line 13. The town is best known for its basilica cathedral, the traditional burial place of the French kings and a key example of Gothic architecture, listed as a historic monument. Nearby stands the Stade de France, built for the 1998 FIFA World Cup and still used for major sporting events and concerts.
