Sete

Sète, a Mediterranean port town nestled between the Étang de Thau lagoon and the sea, is known for its distinctive setting: Mont Saint-Clair, the town's highest point, offers a 360° panorama over the canals, harbour and coastline from the Croix Saint-Clair viewpoint. The town is crisscrossed by canals, sometimes earning it the nickname 'Venice of Languedoc', and is the traditional setting for water jousting tournaments, a well-established local custom. The lively harbour allows for boat trips along the quays or cruises across the lagoon or the Mediterranean, while a shuttle also links Sète to Mèze, a pleasant and affordable way to get out on the water. The central market halls (Les Halles) bring together local shops and produce, and the beaches stretch for almost 14 km, notably towards Marseillan-Plage. For a sweet treat while strolling through town, the Coco Mango bakery is a popular spot for ice cream. The surrounding area also invites horse riding, visits to a traditional bull-breeding farm (manade), and day trips to nearby Montpellier or Béziers.
