Strasbourg

Strasbourg is best explored on foot, with something to discover on almost every corner, especially after dark. Notre-Dame Cathedral dominates the city: climbing to the top (around 5 euros) offers a striking panorama, though it's not recommended for those prone to vertigo, and its astronomical clock draws visitors for its midday show. The Petite France district, with its half-timbered houses and canals, is best visited in the morning when it's quieter. A boat cruise, notably with Batorama, offers a different perspective of the city from the water. The Orangerie park is ideal for a leisurely stroll, while Place Kléber comes alive in winter around its large Christmas tree and illuminated festive markets. For a meal, the restaurant le Gruber, located right by the cathedral, is well regarded for its quality and service. The tram network also makes it easy to cross into neighbouring Germany at Kehl, or reach Basel in just an hour by train.
