Barcelona is renowned for its remarkable architectural heritage, much of it designed by Gaudí. The Sagrada Familia, still under construction yet no less striking, is well worth an in-depth visit, though booking several weeks ahead is advisable. Park Güell, set on the hills above the city, offers sweeping views and colourful mosaics, making it an ideal spot to spend a full day, picnic included. Historic districts such as La Rambla, Barceloneta and El Born are perfect for wandering, while Ciutadella Park and the Boqueria market add to the local flavour. Montjuïc, reachable by cable car, features a botanical garden and hosts a free evening light-and-sound show at the Magic Fountain. For another striking viewpoint, the old bunker at Turó de la Rovira offers a sweeping panorama over the entire city. As for food, Salts bar on Montjuïc is worth a stop for its terrace with impressive views and affordable tapas, while Demesie bakery is known for its excellent cinnamon rolls. Finally, a day trip to Montserrat, just an hour away by train, provides a peaceful escape into nature.
