Pals

Pals is a medieval village in the Baix Empordà area of Girona province, just a short drive from the Costa Brava coastline. Its historic centre, recognised as one of Catalonia's notable heritage sites, features cobbled lanes, stone houses, arcaded passageways and the watchtower known as Torre de les Hores, a remnant of the village's former fortifications. The main square, along with the old Call and Pedró quarters, reflects architecture that has survived largely intact since the Middle Ages. Surrounding the village are extensive rice paddies, and Pals rice holds a particular reputation within Catalan cuisine. The municipality also includes the coastal resort of Platja de Pals, offering a fine sandy beach backed by dunes and pine woods, alongside a protected natural area. Nearby, visitors will find well-regarded golf courses, cycling routes linking the villages of the Baix Empordà, and easy access to Begur, Peratallada and Girona. The Mediterranean climate, mild for much of the year, makes the area well suited to outdoor pursuits, from walking and cycling to exploring the local heritage.
