Cadaques

Cadaqués is a coastal village on the Costa Brava, in the province of Girona, known for its typical whitewashed Mediterranean architecture and cobbled lanes winding down to the seafront. The village is arranged around a rocky bay, with the Church of Santa Maria standing on a hilltop overlooking the white rooftops and harbour. Nearby, the hamlet of Portlligat houses Salvador Dalí's former home and studio, now open as a museum, as the artist lived and painted in the area for decades. The surrounding landscape is shaped by the Cap de Creus Natural Park, a protected nature reserve offering hiking trails along rugged cliffs and secluded coves. The region is well suited to swimming, diving and sailing, thanks to clear waters and varied underwater terrain. The lack of a direct coastal road from the north has long preserved the village's authentic character, reachable mainly via a winding mountain road. The surrounding area also offers seafood restaurants and Catalan specialities, reflecting the local fishing tradition that remains very much alive today.
