Ramatuelle

Ramatuelle is a hilltop village in the Var department, on the Saint-Tropez peninsula, just a few kilometres from Saint-Tropez and its bay. Narrow cobbled streets, stone houses and vaulted passageways define the historic centre, overlooked by a 16th-century church and surrounded by remnants of its old ramparts. The village cemetery holds the grave of actor Gérard Philipe, a site of interest to film enthusiasts. Ramatuelle is also known for Pampelonne beach, one of the most famous stretches of coastline on the French Riviera, lined with beach clubs and popular for its calm waters. The surrounding hills are covered with vineyards producing Côtes de Provence AOC wines, along with olive groves, creating a classic Provençal landscape. Cap Camarat, with its lighthouse and coastal footpaths, offers walks with sweeping views over the Mediterranean. Each summer, an open-air jazz festival brings life to the village.
