Palamos

Palamós is a coastal town on the Costa Brava, in the province of Girona, known for its active fishing port and its local speciality, the Palamós red shrimp, served in numerous seafront restaurants. The Fisheries Museum, housed in the former fish market building, tells the story of the town's maritime heritage and showcases the traditional fish auction, a custom still practised today. The town combines a modern quarter with the old historic centre, Vila Vella, whose narrow lanes lead down to the harbour. Sandy beaches such as Platja Gran and La Fosca draw families in summer, while the coastal footpath (Camí de Ronda) offers walks to quieter coves towards Calonge and Palafrugell. The Cap Roig botanical gardens, set on a cliff overlooking the sea, lie nearby and host a well-known summer music festival. With a Mediterranean climate of hot, dry summers and mild winters, the area is well suited to outdoor pursuits, sailing and diving along this stretch of the Costa Brava.
