Jávea, on the Costa Blanca in the province of Alicante, is made up of three distinct areas: the old town with its fortified church of Sant Bartomeu built from tufa stone, the traditional fishing port, and the Arenal seafront, a long sandy beach lined with restaurants and palm trees. The town sits at the foot of the Montgó massif, a natural park offering hiking trails with views over the Mediterranean. The coastline alternates between sandy beaches and rocky coves, such as Granadella, known for its clear waters ideal for diving and snorkelling. Several 16th-century watchtowers, including the Torre del Rey, bear witness to the coast's defensive past against Barbary raids. Local gastronomy features sun-dried Jávea raisins (pansa), fresh fish and regional rice dishes. The town has a sizeable international community, particularly British and Dutch residents, which supports a wide range of shops and services throughout the year. The mild Mediterranean climate allows for a tourist season that extends well beyond the summer months.
