St-Mandrier-sur-Mer

A peninsula linked to the mainland by a narrow sandy strip, St-Mandrier-sur-Mer occupies a distinctive position facing the bay of Toulon, which it partly encloses. The coastal path, running along the rocky shoreline with open views over the Mediterranean, is one of the town's main draws for walking and taking in the seascape. The area's naval heritage, shaped by the long-standing presence of the French Navy, sits alongside a strong pull towards the sea and diving: several local outfits offer introductory diving sessions, making it easy to explore the underwater scenery of the bay with no prior experience needed. A short bus ride or twenty-minute walk away, the Les Sablettes district is home to much of the local activity, including the Italian restaurant Piazza, known for its charcuterie, set right next to a well-regarded ice cream parlour. The seafront restaurant Le Calypso rounds out the options for a meal by the water. Between coves, coastal trails and water sports, St-Mandrier-sur-Mer stands out for its unspoilt maritime setting and relaxed Mediterranean pace.
