Frehel

Fréhel is a coastal commune in the Côtes-d'Armor department of northern Brittany, best known for the headland that bears its name, one of the region's most iconic natural sites. The protected pink sandstone and schist cliffs rise over 70 metres above the sea and shelter an important bird reserve, home to nesting guillemots, cormorants and gulls. The public Cap Fréhel lighthouse offers sweeping views across the Channel, extending as far as the Channel Islands on a clear day. Nearby stands Fort la Latte, a medieval fortress perched on a rocky spur, which makes for a natural addition to any visit to the area. Cap d'Erquy, with its heather and gorse moorland and coastal footpath (GR34), is another popular stop close by. The commune also has sandy beaches, including Sable d'Or les Pins, well suited to families and seaside activities. The wider coastline lends itself to walking, spotting marine wildlife, and photographing classic Breton coastal scenery.
