Arcangues

Arcangues is a village in the inland Basque Country, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department, just a few kilometres from Biarritz and Bayonne. Its rolling landscape, dotted with traditional Basque farmhouses, contrasts with the nearby Atlantic coastline. The village retains a typical pelota fronton, the heart of local life, along with the Saint-Fructueux church, whose cemetery holds the grave of singer Luis Mariano. A well-regarded golf course, the Golf d'Arcangues, is also found within the commune. The village's location makes it easy to reach Biarritz for its beaches and seaside atmosphere, Bayonne for its heritage and traditional festivals, and the numerous summer ferias held across the region. The Spanish border and San Sebastián are also within less than an hour's drive, offering access to Basque culture and cuisine on both sides of the frontier. Arcangues therefore serves as a quiet, authentic base from which to explore the Basque coastline, its beaches and traditional festive events, as well as the surrounding rural countryside, all within a well-preserved setting.
