Port-en-Bessin-Huppain

Port-en-Bessin-Huppain is a fishing port in Calvados, Normandy, set on the Côte de Nacre between Bayeux and Grandcamp-Maisy. The heart of the town is built around its tidal harbour, where trawlers and scallop boats moor; the fish auction, one of the busiest in the region, offers a chance to watch the sale of local seafood, particularly scallops and freshly caught fish. The village retains a strong maritime character, with its harbour entrances protected by breakwaters and the Notre-Dame church overlooking the port. The surrounding cliffs provide views over the English Channel and can be reached via the Normandy coastal footpath. The town lies close to Omaha Beach, one of the D-Day landing beaches from June 1944, making it a convenient base for visiting the area's historic sites, as well as Bayeux and its cathedral, around fifteen minutes away. Port-en-Bessin-Huppain thus maintains a balance between traditional fishing activity and tourism linked to the D-Day landings.
