St-Malo

Saint-Malo, on Brittany's northern coast, is known for its walled old town, where a stroll along the ramparts offers fine sunset views over the sea. The walk leads to Fort National, reachable at low tide, and to the small islands of Grand Bé and Petit Bé, home to Chateaubriand's tomb. The Saint-Malo Aquarium is a popular attraction, along with the harbour, the ancient Cité d'Aleth, and the surrounding beaches, including Bon Secours. The coastline invites long walks past sculpted rocks, wartime bunkers and Atlantic Wall remains, stretching towards Pointe de la Varde or Pointe du Grouin. A boat crossing takes you to Dinard, which can be explored on foot or via the coastal GR 34 path. After all that walking, the crêperie du Corps de Garde or the restaurant l'Amiral make good spots to stop for a bite in town. The surrounding area also makes for pleasant day trips to Cancale, Dinan, Combourg or Mont-Saint-Michel, less than an hour's drive away.
