Solenzara

Solenzara is a town on the eastern coast of Corse-du-Sud, set along the Tyrrhenian Sea and the river of the same name, roughly midway between Bastia to the north and Bonifacio to the south. Its location makes it a convenient base for exploring the mountainous interior, particularly the Bavella needles, a granite massif offering hiking trails and views typical of southern Corsica, as well as the Baracci canyon, known for its clear natural pools. Heading south, Bonifacio and its citadel perched atop limestone cliffs are well worth the visit, along with the Lavezzi Islands, reachable by boat and renowned for their crystal-clear waters. Porto-Vecchio, with its lively town centre, is another easy day trip from Solenzara. Locally, the restaurant Chez Papou is recommended for its welcoming service. Between sandy beaches, a river mouth and easy access to nearby peaks, Solenzara offers a quiet seaside setting combined with quick access to the standout natural sites of south-eastern Corsica.
