Gujan-Mestras

Gujan-Mestras is a town on the Arcachon Bay in the Gironde department, known as the oyster capital of the region thanks to its seven oyster harbours, including Larros, the largest and best-preserved of them all. This historic harbour, now a listed site, offers visitors the chance to see traditional oyster farmers' huts and sample fresh oysters right on the quayside. The town stretches along several kilometres of coastline, providing easy access to the bay, its sandy beaches and areas for shellfish gathering. Nature lovers will appreciate the nearby Landes forest and coastal cycle paths leading to Arcachon or La Teste-de-Buch. The town also offers leisure facilities, including a water park and sports amenities. The mild oceanic climate allows for water sports throughout much of the year, such as sailing, kayaking and paddleboarding on the bay. Gujan-Mestras makes a convenient base for exploring the area, combining oyster-farming traditions, unspoilt nature and proximity to the Dune du Pilat, just a few kilometres away.
