Croix-Valmer

La Croix-Valmer is a town in the Var department, on the peninsula between Saint-Tropez and Cavalaire-sur-Mer, within the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Its coastline combines rocky coves with long sandy beaches, including Plage du Débarquement, the historic site where Allied troops landed on 15 August 1944 during Operation Dragoon; a memorial there commemorates this episode of the liberation of Provence. The Cap Lardier estate, a protected natural area managed by the Conservatoire du littoral, offers coastal footpaths through Mediterranean scrubland with sea views. The town also extends over vineyard-covered hills producing wines under the Côtes de Provence appellation, reflecting the area's traditional winemaking heritage. Nearby, Ramatuelle, Gassin and Saint-Tropez add to a wider offering centred on the sea, nature and local heritage. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, makes the area well suited to swimming and watersports from May to September, while La Croix-Valmer retains a somewhat quieter, more understated character than some of its busier neighbours.
