Port-Camargue

Port-Camargue, on the edge of Grau-du-Roi in the Gard region, is one of Europe's largest marinas, built around quays served by the La Marinette shuttle, handy for reaching the southern beach or catching a sunset boat trip. The harbour offers fish landed and sold fresh at its stalls, while a lively market takes over the pedestrian street near Carrefour 2000 every Wednesday morning. Nature lovers can visit the Seaquarium, which focuses on marine conservation, and a well-regarded mini-golf course set among greenery. The surrounding area is ideal for horse riding along the shore, canoeing, and exploring the Salins d'Aigues-Mortes salt marshes or the wild Espiguette beach. Grau-du-Roi itself, reachable on foot or by bike, retains its bullring where traditional Camargue bull-running events and toro-piscine take place, alongside local manade demonstrations of bull sorting. For a bite to eat, L'Escapade pizzeria and L'After Espiguette restaurant are popular choices near the holiday rentals.
