Biscarrosse

Biscarrosse, a resort town on the Landes coast, offers a striking mix of landscapes between the Atlantic Ocean and pine forests. The town stretches to the sea, where fine sandy beaches are ideal for swimming and watersports, while the inland Lac de Biscarrosse provides a calmer setting suited to gentle water activities and leisurely walks. The town centre brings together local shops and everyday life, with a typical south-western French atmosphere. The area makes an excellent base for exploring key sites around the Arcachon Bay: the Dune of Pilat, the tallest sand dune in Europe, offers superb views, particularly at sunset, while Arcachon and the Cap Ferret are also well worth a visit. Bordeaux, under an hour away, makes for a worthwhile day trip for culture and heritage. For food, the pizzeria Au Parrain is well regarded for its generous, large pizzas at reasonable prices. Between ocean beaches, a peaceful lake and easy access to the main sights around Arcachon Bay, Biscarrosse is a convenient base for discovering this part of the Aquitaine coastline.
