Calvi

Calvi is a coastal town on the north-western shore of Corsica, in the Haute-Corse department, known for its Genoese citadel perched on a rocky headland overlooking the harbour. The Bay of Calvi, lined with a fine sandy beach and umbrella pines, stretches for several kilometres along the Mediterranean Sea, backed by mountain scenery. The marina and fishing port bring life to the seafront, where restaurants and shops are concentrated. The area enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers, well suited to water-based activities such as sailing, diving and kayaking. A coastal path leads from Calvi to the chapel of Notre-Dame-de-la-Serra, offering views over the bay and the Revellata peninsula. The town also serves as a gateway to the Balagne region, noted for its hilltop villages such as Pigna and Sant'Antonino. Each summer, Calvi hosts the Calvi on the Rocks music festival. Local cuisine features Corsican charcuterie, brocciu cheese and chestnut-based specialities. An airport serves the town directly, making the region easily accessible.
