Cannes

Cannes revolves around La Croisette, the seafront promenade lined with palm trees, home to the Palais des Festivals, famous for its red-carpet steps and casino. The old Suquet quarter, perched on the hillside, offers sweeping views over the bay and the well-known CANNES letters, while the marina and its narrow streets make for a pleasant stroll. Boat trips from the harbour lead to the Lérins Islands, Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat, popular for their coastal paths and secluded coves. Water sports feature strongly here, with jet-skiing, catamaran sailing, banana boat rides and parasailing all easily arranged along the coast. For dinner, Seaside restaurant is valued for the quality of its dishes, while La Pizza Entre Amis is known for its generous portions and reasonable prices. Cannes also makes a convenient base for day trips to Nice, Monaco or Antibes, each within an hour by train or car. With its Mediterranean climate and relaxed seaside atmosphere, Cannes remains an appealing destination for much of the year.
