Carnac

Renowned for its megalithic alignments, one of the largest collections of standing stones in Europe, Carnac is worth visiting both for its prehistoric heritage, complemented by the museum of prehistory, and for its coastline. The town spans Carnac-Ville and Carnac-Plage, with beaches such as Men Dû, while the coastal footpath (sentier des douaniers) allows walkers to follow the wild coastline, notably towards Quiberon. The lively market and night market bring energy to the evenings, alongside numerous shops that stay open late. For a meal, Le 18ème Amendement is a well-regarded restaurant, while Les Niniches is worth a stop for artisanal caramel and waffles made with local produce. The surrounding area also invites day trips: the Quiberon peninsula and its rugged coastline, La Trinité-sur-Mer, Saint-Philibert for jet-skiing, the megalithic site at Locmariaquer around 15 minutes away, and boat crossings to Belle-Île-en-Mer or the Île de Groix. The Gulf of Morbihan, including Île aux Moines, rounds off the options for exploring nearby.
