Font Romeu

Font-Romeu-Odeillo-Via, in the Cerdagne area of the Pyrénées-Orientales, is a mid-mountain resort known for its ski area and exceptional sunshine, illustrated by the Odeillo solar furnace. The village offers easy walks through the woods and along the ski slopes, giving a natural overview of the surrounding area, rather like an open-air museum. Hiking enthusiasts will find plenty of choice here: the ascent of Pic Carlit, the tour of the twelve lakes, a walk to the Col del Palm, or the Arboretum trail, suitable for beginners. The Carança gorges, reachable by car or aboard the Yellow Train, add to the range of outdoor outings, as does Lac des Bouillouses, a popular starting point for summer hikes. Nearby, the Fontrabiouse cave and the one at Villefranche-de-Conflent offer a glimpse of the Pyrenean underground heritage. In winter, the resort brings the village to life with ski-related activities. For a meal, La Belle Époque restaurant is appreciated for its cooking and welcoming service, while Le Maïloll café provides a friendly atmosphere. The Angles animal park, a few kilometres away, rounds off the family outings available in the area.
