Argentiere

Argentière is a village in Haute-Savoie, part of the commune of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, lying at the head of the valley at around 1,250 metres above sea level, beneath the glacier that shares its name. This mountain hamlet is a popular starting point for hiking, offering direct access to the Aiguilles Rouges massif and the Mont Blanc range. Among the best-known routes are the walk up to Lac Blanc, which offers sweeping views of the Mont Blanc chain, and the hike to La Jonction, a viewpoint over the Mer de Glace where several glaciers converge. In winter, Argentière is also known for its Grands Montets ski area, particularly favoured for off-piste skiing and mountaineering. The village retains a more authentic, less built-up feel than Chamonix, with traditional chalets and a genuine alpine atmosphere. Its position at the far end of the valley makes it a convenient base for exploring the surrounding glaciers, high-mountain trails and outdoor activities typical of this part of the Mont Blanc massif, whether in summer or winter.
