Flaine Montsoleil

Flaine Montsoleil refers to a residential area within the ski resort of Flaine, in Haute-Savoie, at an altitude of around 1,600 metres in the Giffre mountain range. The resort, designed in the 1960s by architect Marcel Breuer, is notable for its distinctive concrete brutalist architecture, now recognised for its heritage value. Flaine forms part of the Grand Massif ski area, one of the largest in Haute-Savoie, linked to the villages of Samoëns, Morillon, Les Carroz and Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, offering several hundred kilometres of pistes suited to all levels. The mountain surroundings, with fir forests and peaks typical of the Northern Alps, allow for downhill skiing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter, and hiking and mountain biking in summer. Thanks to its altitude and exposure, the resort generally enjoys reliable snow cover. Accommodation in the Montsoleil sector provides convenient access to the ski lifts and the resort's shops. The setting remains quiet and geared towards mountain pursuits, without significant town-style entertainment.
