Suilly la tour

Suilly-la-Tour is a small rural village in the Nièvre department, Burgundy, set in the Loire valley close to Pouilly-sur-Loire and La Charité-sur-Loire. The village lies within a typical Nivernais landscape of hedgerows, arable fields and vineyards, not far from the renowned Pouilly-Fumé vineyards known for their dry white wines. The nearby Loire river and the adjoining canal make the area well suited to walking and cycling, including along the Loire à Vélo cycle route that runs through the region. A few kilometres away, La Charité-sur-Loire is noted for its former Cluniac priory, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela. Nevers, the departmental capital, is also within easy reach and offers historic sites such as its cathedral and ducal palace. The region enjoys a temperate continental climate, with mild summers and cool winters, favourable for outdoor pursuits. Suilly-la-Tour therefore makes a quiet base from which to explore the wine-growing heritage and riverside landscapes of the Nièvre.
