Saint-Rémy is a small village in the Côte-d'Or department of Burgundy, located right next to Montbard, in the Brenne valley. The setting is typically rural, characteristic of the Auxois and Châtillonnais areas, with rolling hills, meadows and woodland. The nearby Burgundy Canal offers scope for walking or cycling along its towpaths, a popular way to explore the area at a leisurely pace. Montbard, just a short distance away, provides shops, a mainline station served by TGV trains, and access to several heritage sites, including the Abbey of Fontenay, a Cistercian gem and UNESCO World Heritage Site situated only a few kilometres away. The wider Burgundy region is well known for its cuisine, with specialities such as beef bourguignon, Époisses cheese and snails, as well as for its renowned vineyards further south towards the Côte de Nuits. The climate is continental with oceanic influences, bringing mild summers and cool winters. Saint-Rémy therefore makes a quiet base from which to explore the heritage and landscapes of northern Burgundy.
