Martiel

Martiel is a small rural commune in the Aveyron department, in the Occitanie region, located a few kilometres from Villefranche-de-Rouergue. This village in the Rouergue area sits within a typically hilly landscape of the southern Massif Central, where hedgerowed farmland, cereal crops and livestock farming remain traditional activities. The climate combines oceanic and continental influences, bringing warm summers and cooler winters than in the surrounding plains. The nearby town of Villefranche-de-Rouergue, a former royal bastide founded in the 13th century, offers visitors medieval architecture, the Chartreuse Saint-Sauveur monastery and a well-known weekly market.
