Campagnac

Campagnac is a small village in the Aveyron department, in the Rouergue region, perched on the Sévérac causse plateau, close to Séverac-le-Château and around thirty kilometres from Rodez. This part of the Grands Causses is characterised by limestone plateaux, windswept uplands and deep valleys, and falls within the Grands Causses Regional Nature Park, making it well suited to hikers and those seeking peace and unspoilt scenery. The village retains an authentic rural character, with traditional stone buildings typical of the causse and a church reflecting the local Rouergue architectural style. The surrounding area is known for its karst landscapes and for the Tarn and Jonte gorges, both a short drive away, as well as for regional specialities such as aligot, sheep's cheese and Roquefort, produced nearby on the Larzac plateau. The climate is semi-continental with mountain influences, bringing hot, dry summers and colder winters. Campagnac therefore makes a quiet base from which to explore rural Aveyron, combining built heritage, wild nature and local produce, away from the bustle of larger tourist towns.
