Huparlac

Huparlac is a small hamlet in the Aveyron department, part of the commune of Sainte-Geneviève-sur-Argence, set in the heart of the Aubrac plateau. This area is known for its rolling upland scenery, wide-open pastures and traditional stone shepherds' huts known as burons, offering an unspoilt rural setting that's popular for walking and mountain biking, as well as spotting local wildlife. Winters here are cold and snowy, making the region well suited to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, while summers are mild and draw visitors keen on open countryside and fresh air. The Aubrac is well known for its food, particularly Aubrac beef, aligot (a creamy potato and cheese dish) and Laguiole cheese, all typical of the local terroir. Nearby villages such as Laguiole and Saint-Chély-d'Aubrac showcase traditional stone and slate architecture, along with a strong heritage linked to shepherding and seasonal cattle droving. Huparlac makes a quiet base for exploring the Aubrac, combining nature, local produce and rural tradition, away from the busier tourist resorts.
