Saint-Mars-de-Coutais is a small village in the Pays de Retz area of Loire-Atlantique, around twenty kilometres south-west of Nantes. It lies close to Lake Grand-Lieu, an extensive wetland classified as a national nature reserve, well known for its rich birdlife and marshland scenery typical of the region.
