Val de briey

Val de Briey is a town in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department, in the Grand Est region of France, formed in 2016 through the merger of Briey and neighbouring villages. Located at the heart of the Lorraine iron-mining basin, close to Metz and not far from the Luxembourg border, it retains traces of its industrial past linked to iron ore extraction and metallurgy, which shaped much of this part of the department. The surrounding landscape, marked by wooded hills and green valleys, offers pleasant opportunities for walking and hiking, particularly around the Orne valley. The town centre of Briey features architecture typical of small Lorraine towns, with a few notable buildings reflecting its history. The area enjoys a moderate continental climate, with mild summers and cool winters typical of Lorraine. Its location provides convenient access to larger regional towns such as Metz and Thionville, while retaining a rural and residential character. It makes for a quiet destination, combining nature, industrial heritage and proximity to cross-border urban centres.
