Loireauxence

Loireauxence is a commune in the Loire-Atlantique department (postcode 44370), formed in 2016 through the merger of the former communes of Belligné, Le Fresne-sur-Loire, La Rouxière and Varades. It stretches along the River Loire, in the Pays d'Ancenis area, roughly halfway between Nantes and Angers. This rural area retains a strong agricultural character, with hedgerowed farmland and vineyards typical of the Nantes wine region, known for producing Muscadet. The nearby river offers opportunities for riverside walks and exploring the local Loire heritage, while the village of Varades still holds a few reminders of its past, including its church and the site of a former ferry crossing. The commune benefits from convenient transport links, with Varades railway station on the Nantes–Angers line and easy access to the A11 motorway. The region's mild oceanic climate makes it pleasant to explore on foot or by bike, particularly along the Loire à Vélo cycle route running through the area.
