Chaumes en retz

Chaumes-en-Retz is a municipality in the Pays de Retz area of Loire-Atlantique, created in 2019 through the merger of the former villages of Chéméré, Chauvé and Arthon-en-Retz. Located roughly midway between Nantes and the Atlantic coast, it offers a typically rural setting shaped by hedgerowed farmland, market gardening and the nearby Muscadet vineyards. The area provides easy access to the beaches of Pornic and the Bay of Bourgneuf, as well as to Lake Grand-Lieu, a nature reserve popular with birdwatchers. The mild oceanic climate allows for outdoor pursuits for much of the year, including walking and cycling along the country lanes linking the former villages. Local life centres on small shops, a market and schools spread across the commune's various hamlets. Chaumes-en-Retz makes a peaceful base for exploring the Pays de Retz, combining authentic villages, wetlands and coastline, while remaining around thirty minutes from Nantes and its wider urban area.
