Porte du ried

Porte du Ried is an intercommunal area located in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, near Colmar. It takes its name from the Ried, a natural wetland region crossed by the Ill river and its tributaries, characterised by flood meadows, alluvial forests and rich biodiversity, including the storks for which the region is well known. The villages within this area retain traditional Alsatian architecture, with half-timbered houses and farms typical of the Ried landscape. This rural setting offers a peaceful environment, ideal for walking or cycling along country lanes and waterways, as well as observing local wildlife. Its proximity to Colmar provides easy access to the city's historic and cultural heritage, including the picturesque Petite Venise district, while still allowing visitors to enjoy a quieter countryside atmosphere.
