Vimartin sur orthe

Vimartin-sur-Orthe is a small rural commune in the Mayenne department, in the Pays de la Loire region, crossed by the Orthe stream from which it takes its name. The area sits within the typical Mayenne bocage landscape, a patchwork of meadows, hedgerows and small woods interspersed with streams, long suited to the dairy farming that underpins the local economy. The village retains a quiet, traditional character, with its church and stone-built houses typical of the region. The surrounding countryside offers pleasant opportunities for walking or cycling along quiet country lanes. Vimartin-sur-Orthe lies close to some of the department's better-known sites, including the medieval village of Sainte-Suzanne, listed among the Plus Beaux Villages de France, and is just twenty kilometres or so from Laval, the Mayenne prefecture, which offers shops, rail connections and cultural amenities.
