Val du layon

Val du Layon is a commune in Maine-et-Loire, formed through the merger of several villages at the heart of the Anjou vineyards. The area is particularly renowned for its sweet white wines, notably the Coteaux du Layon and Bonnezeaux appellations, grown on south-facing slopes along the Layon river. The landscape features terraced vineyards, charming villages built in white tuffeau stone, and green valleys crossed by walking trails. Wine enthusiasts can visit family-run cellars and sample local vintages directly from producers. Being only about thirty kilometres from Angers, the area also makes an excellent base for exploring the Loire Valley châteaux and the region's historic sites. The temperate oceanic climate, with mild summers and bright autumns, suits both viticulture and outdoor pursuits such as cycling or walking along the Layon's riverbanks.
